It’s March and spring is finally here, well it’s probably been here since January thanks to global warming, my burrow beneath our South London offices is boiling! Anyway, environmental / political rant over as we have so much sport to offer you this month.

We have a plethora of markets available on the likes of the Cricket World Cup, Cheltenham Festival, climax of the Six Nations, FA Cup, and return of F1 (never mind) there is simply no better place to bet than with Sporting Index!

Plus, as from next week keep your eyes peeled for our fabulous Cricket World Cup competition that you can enter…..you heard it here first.

Yours in sport

PS - Don’t forget to keep sending in your good and bad trades to themole@sportingindex.com for your chance to win a £50 football supremacy bet.

Poor old Scotland; They had had a real shocker at Murrayfield on Saturday in the Six Nations. One client bought the Italian's Match Performance (Win 25 points, Draw 10 points, Try 15 points, Conversion / Penalty or Drop Goal 5 points, missed Penalty or Drop goal -5 points, Yellow Card -5 points, Red Card -15 points) at 37 for £50. The Jocks managed to keep Italy out of the points for a whole 20 seconds before gifting them three tries in the opening six minutes. The not-so Bravehearts never recovered from the shock start with the final Azzurri Match Performance making-up a staggering 115. This included four tries, three penalties, their first away win in the tournament and, of course, the client joyously celebrating a £3,900 win.

How boring is the Carling Cup? None of the big teams taking it seriously, putting out second-string sides – rubbish! A right ding-dong-do ensued at the Millennium on Sunday as Chelsea beat Arsenal in a game packed with infamous incident. And what better spread betting market to have bought than Bookings, which one punter did at 48 for £20. The London sides made no illusions that they really wanted to win the trophy and even chucked in a good old fashioned handbag melee at the end to bring the Bookings result to an enormous 145, with seven yellow and three red cards brandished in total by Howard Webb. This meant that the client helped himself to winnings of £1,940 – who said crime doesn’t pay!

Reading v Man United, where do you start? A game like that was placed right in between heaven and hell, with hell calling for the one client that bought Man U on the Total Goal Minutes Supremacy at 50 for £2 (one team's total goal minutes against another). An incredible start ensued with The Reds three up within six minutes putting the tie seemingly out of Reading’s reach. You cannot think what went through the mind of the punter after this. Would United now sit back and take it easy? Or would Reading completely collapse and ship more goals? Nether happened as Reading came back with two strikes, including one in the 84th minute to bring the final TGM total to 95 in Reading’s favour and the client with a £290 hole in the back pocket.

Shades of Pedro Mendes at St. Andrews this week, over to Mr. T from Surrey to explain….. 'I was very unfortunate on Tuesday night to sell the time of the 1st Leeds goal against Birmingham at 63 for £5. I was sitting there watching Chris Kamara’s other half Rob McCaffrey being his usual over-exuberant-self on Sky Sports when he suddenly shouted “goal at St. Andrews over to Peter Reid”. I didn’t hope for too much given Leeds’ current plight until Reidy said “goal for Leeds, think its Cresswell”. I went mental, it was the 30th minute and I was looking at a £165 profit, even the caption came up as 1-1. But no, the bl**dy ref did not give it even though TV cameras proved that it was over the line! No further ‘goals’ from Leeds meant that I ended up losing 27 times my original stake – bring on goal-line technology'!

Premiership It was a weekend of highs and lows for Jose. His boys may have picked up the first piece of English silverware, but they lost further ground on Man Utd in the league after the Reds bagged another 3 points at Fulham. Chelsea are now down 1 point to 42-45 on our Premiership Outright Index.

Alan Pardew couldn’t wipe the smile off his face after the Addicks gave his former side, West Ham, a four goal hiding at The Valley. Charlton are down 7 points to 27-30 on our Premiership Relegation Index.

Cheltenham May be still over a week away but equine enthusiasts can’t get enough of our Festival markets. Favourites and Distances are both on the move, up 2 points and 3 points respectively to 177-187 and 87-93.

Six Nations The Rose has wilted many times since England’s World Cup success in 2003, never more so then at Croke Park last Saturday. Brian Ashton’s men are down 10 points to 22-25 on our Six Nations Outright Index following their Irish humiliation.

We were treated to a momentous weekend of Six Nations rugby last week with sixteen tries scored in total at Murrayfield, Croke Park and the Stade de France (almost as many as we had during the opening two rounds of matches). Total Tournament Tries are up 7 to 63-64.

FA Cup Despite a sluggish second half performance in the replay against Reading on Tuesday, United did enough to book their place in the Quarters. They are up 9 points to 63-66 on our FA Cup Outright Index.

Super League St Helen’s World Club Challenge win would have done wonders for their morale. And that is exactly what some punters have been thinking. Saints are up 6 points to 74-78 on our Super League Outright Index.
