Wasps lifted the Guinness Premiership trophy for the fourth time in six years last weekend and there could have been few men happier than the out-going Wasps skipper Lawrence Bruno Nero Dallaglio. A world record club crowd of 81,600 gave the big man a standing ovation 12 minutes from time, but no one would have been cheering louder than the client who bought Wasps supremacy at 3 for a bottom tensing £5,000. The bet rarely looked in doubt as Wasps raced into a first half lead with tries from Tom Rees and Josh Lewsey and five successful kicks from van Gisbergen. To make things better for our man, Andy Goode had clearly been taking kicking lessons from Heather Mills and Wasps went into half time with a 23-6 lead. At this point, with Wasps supremacy trading at 18-20, our man could have closed out for a profit of £75,000! However, the bet was allowed to run and Leicester got themselves back into the match. Had it not been for Goode choking like a Kiwi in a World Cup this story may never have made it into the mole, but at the final whistle the score was 26-16 to Wasps and our man was giving himself a standing ovation and counting his £35,000 winnings. One or two foaming ales were sunk that night no doubt! |

Rugby Union's less glamorous cousin, Rugby League, is the setting for this week's bad trade, and there's no surprise to see it come from Bradford's shock 16-22 defeat to Hull. Having lost in their six previous visits to Bradford's Grattan Stadium, few expected the visitors to trouble the Bulls, despite the home side missing their influential captain Paul Deacon. One client was so confident of Bradford's dominance that he bought £20 of their performance supremacy (25pts Win, 10pts draw, 15pts Try, 5pts kick, -5pts missed kick, -5pts yellow card, -10pts red card) at 44. Our luckless punter must have been tearing his hair out as the ref blew up for penalty after penalty in a dour first half and Hull went into the break 16-6 up. With our client staring firmly down the barrel and praying for a Bradford fight-back, Hull extended their lead early in the second half and it looked like a one way ticket to Piecesville, Tennessee (that old chestnut). A late Bradford rally was not enough and the final result of -44 meant that our man was hit to the tune of £1,780. Ouch! You could say this result was a bit like Mrs Shrew..... shocking minus make-up!

Euro 2008 Mamma mia!!! Italy were left cursing their luck after their star defender and captain, Fabio Cannavaro, was stretchered off during a practice match last weekend. How will they cope in his absence? The Azzurri are down 2 to 34-37 on our Euro 2008 Outright Index.
There's nothing worse then netting past your own keeper. We've all been there, done it, got the T-shirt and even the pros have been known to do it (John Arne Riise, Lee Dixon etc etc). When will we witness the first howler at Euro 2008? Our Stop at a Tournament Own-Goal market is down a half to 14.5-16.
Keep your eyes glued to the box when the whistle blows (as if you need telling) as some punters are expecting a very early goal in one of the 31 matches at the Finals. Our Fastest Tournament Goal market is down 5 to 130-140.
Croatia netted 28 times en route to topping their qualification group, although ten of them were scored by Eduardo, who is missing the European jamboree through injury. It hasn't stopped the money coming for their tournament goals though, the quote is up 0.2 to 5-5.5.
Mildly interesting / useless sporting fact
In 1985, a 13 year old Lawrence Dallaglio sung backing vocals on Tina Turner's "We don't need another hero" with the King's House school choir. This was only discovered in 2005 when the Musicians Union realised the choristers had not been paid any royalties on the record and attempted to track them down.
