Football's back! Men rejoice and wives sigh. But my week has been soured by Sky's decision to remove Sky Sports News from the Freeview channel line-up as Murdoch's men try to trump BT. For many it’s now bye bye Georgie, bye bye Natalie, bye bye Chloe!

But to cheer you all up, I'm giving you the chance to watch the 'New' England against Hungary at Wembley on Wednesday. Usually I try to offer competitions that make people want to enter, but if you fancy a laugh then tell me simply who will win Sunday's Community Shield between Chelsea and Man United and I'll give the correct client out of the hat two very nice Club Wembley seats for their efforts. Email themole@sportingindex.com before 3pm on Sunday.

Yours in patriotic booing

Judging by what has been happening in the Southern Hemisphere over the past month it's not worth anyone turning up in New Zealand for next year's World Cup. I appreciate that people say this exact thing every four years but if you'd have seen how good the All Blacks were against arch-rivals and joint second World Cup favourites Australia, on Saturday then you, like me, would now be hoovering what remains of that 5/4 up right now. Someone who also hoovered up was the client who bought New Zealand Multi-Points at 165 for £35. And when you're long of Multis (1st half points x 2nd half points) and your team put on a massive 32 points during a devastating four try first half, then it's time to put your feet up and pull the ring off one. To be fair it was an outstanding contest between two attack minded teams, but Graham Henry's side have the confidence and assurance of a World Cup winning team. With 32 on the board, the punter simply needed the All-Blacks to convert a try to be in the money. And they needed just six minutes before Mils Muliaina scored his second try of the game and his team's fifth. The home side brought their tally to a respectable 21 only for Joe Rokocoko, subject of track 4 on Arcade Fire's new album, to again stamp the All Black's authority with his 46th Test try. And there was time for one more NZ score to bring the second half total to 17 points, the make-up to 544 and the client's P&L to a staggering £13,265.

I have to admit that I was one of those who got a little carried away with Pakistan's seam attack before the series started and had a small bet with our Client Services Director (Chief) that they would win at least one Test match. But what you need with a decent looking bowling attack is a decent batting line-up. Unfortunately for me but more so for the punter who bought Pakistan's 2nd Innings Runs at 248 for £45, they don't! Needing a world record 435, there was more chance of the Pakistani President and David Cameron being seen holding hands at midnight along Whitehall. They were simply awful and reeked of a team that will certainly not land me a payout from Chief. After a quiet opening to the fourth day, the swing music started, as James Anderson continued to rip through the side, first claiming opener Farhat with a vicious inswinger, then removing Umar Akmal with another. It was all over as Anderson stole the show taking a further three wickets to give him six for the innings and 11 for the game (his first 10 wicket Test haul). 80 runs was all a savagely beaten Pakistan could muster, costing our man £7,560.

Politics The name might be Sporting Index but we cover markets way beyond the sporting arena. And a topic that's seen a lot of interest is the race for the Labour Leadership. Once trading at 3-3.5, David Miliband is now out on his own at 17-18 and it seems a certainty that a Miliband will be the new leader with only brother Ed challenging at 6.5-7.5. While Balls, Burnham and Abbott are gonners at 0-0.5.
