It seems that the striking American scriptwriters have still managed to keep themselves busy during their industrial action by writing for the NFL. Last Sunday saw one of the most thrilling Superbowls in living memory as the New England Patriots took on the New York Giants in Arizona. One punter, seemingly as creative as the scriptwriters, chose to sell the match's MVP Shirt Supremacy at 60 for £20 with a Patriots' rosterman favourite for the honour. The Giants' tireless defence kept New England at bay as the Patriots went into the Tom Petty show with a slender 7-3 lead. But step up one Eli Manning, the brother of the MVP in last year's Superbowl, to write some history. Manning threw to David Tyree in the 4th who made it 10-7 only for New England to edge ahead again with a TD from the subdued but superb Randy Moss. Then Manning squirmed through the Patriots' defence to launch one of the most awe-inspiring plays in NFL history - a 32-yard bomb that was caught by Tyree with the assistance of his helmet! With just 35 seconds left #10 Manning cemented himself as the game's MVP by finding Plaxico Burgess in acres to win the world's biggest domestic competition for the Giants. The amazing finish and the award of MVP to Manning meant that the market made up -10 and left our man savouring a profit of £1,400.

More oval ball tailed action and it's no surprise that Saturday's remarkable action at Twickenham finds its way into the depths of the Mole's bad trade section. One client had the misfortune (in the most literal way possible) to buy the England over Wales Performance just before half-time at a massive 86 for £100 (25pts the win, 10 draw, try 15, con / pen / dg 5, missed pen / dg -5, yellow 5, red -15). If a game of rugby only lasted 40 minutes then Brian Ashton would be a very happy man. England were close to excellence in the first half and led Wales comfortably 16-6 at the break. This just happened to be the time that our man sensed a massacre and got himself on. But how bad a decision that turned out to be as the now well documented England collapse took full effect and the Welsh were gifted 20 points to steal their first victory at the home of rugby for twenty years. This meant the Performance Supremacy market took a Northern Rock style dive into the red leaving the market to make up -50 and leave our punter to nurse the results of open wallet surgery.

Six Nations There was boisterous singing in the valleys all through the night on Saturday following Wales' Twickenham triumph. Warren Gatland's men are up 12 points to 30-33 on our Six Nations Outright Index.

Premier League The balance of power in the title race shifted in Arsenal's favour last weekend. The Gunners became the first side to beat Man City at home in the league this season while Man Utd and Chelsea were held to 1-1 draws. The Wengerboys are up three points to 43-46 on our Premier League Championship Index.

European Football Have Real Madrid taken their foot off the gas in the race to be crowned Campeones de Liga? Los Blancos are down two points to 55-57 on our Primera Liga Outright Index following their 2-0 reverse against Almeria.

Politics The democratic tug of war between Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama continues to rumble on across the Atlantic. Both hailed 'Super Tuesday' a success, but punters don't think the former first lady should be glowing about the result. She's down two points to 9.5-11 on our US Presidential Election Index.

The only spread betting virtual racing game in the world Kennington Park offers you all the markets and betting opportunities that you would expect from 'real life' race meetings. Whether you want to bet on individual races or place a 'Meetings' bet (which covers all six), there is something for everyone. Remember you can even play for free, so don’t take my word for it click here.

Want to watch the Six Nations with us? Despite last Saturday's result the clients who came down to the Hollywood Arms in Chelsea really enjoyed some generous Sporting Index hospitality. And, there are still two more chances to join us before the tournament ends. If you want to be with us on either the 23rd of February or the 8th March email rugby@sportingindex.com to find out more. Terms & Conditions apply.
