The Mole: Special 200th Edition

Sincere apologies but due to the Chelsea v Man United game being called off there will unfortunately be no iPad giveaway, although please check your email as I will still be selecting five clients at random to each receive £100 cash.

Alistair Cook and KP aren't the only ones to reach a double ton of late. Today this piece turned 200 editions old, can you believe it!? I think Mrs Mole is officially now considering trading me in for a younger model.

It's not a bad job writing about punting week in week out and I thank all of you for continuing to read my piece. To celebrate this landmark edition I've stolen the MD's credit card and am giving an iPad to the lucky client out of the hat who can tell me what Total Goal Minutes will make-up in the huge Chelsea v United game on Sunday.

Plus, regardless if you guess right or not, I'll also be choosing five entrants at random to each receive £100 cash. So even if you happen to be wrong this week, you might win something. Email your prediction to themole@sportingindex.com before the big one kicks off at 4pm Sunday.

The Mole: Quote

The Mole: Good Trade
"A waste of license fee payers' money" was the way one QPR fan summed up Friday night's defeat to Watford live on the BBC. Although if you'd have bought Malky Mackay's men on the Win Index at six for £500 before the game, like one client did, you probably saw some of the best television in years (25pts for a win, 10pts for a draw). QPR totally underestimated Watford as The Hornets looked like they were the ones who had been top all season, not Neil Warnock's men. Understand that, before the game, Rangers were 90 minutes away from equalling the club record of 20 league matches without defeat, but as soon as Danny Graham had given the visitors the lead there was more chance of receiving stimulus from The Queen than the unbeaten record being equalled. Watford humbled QPR and added further goals through Mutch and the impressive Graham, and they could've had many more. Tommy Smith did eventually score for the home side but it was not enough to deny our man a 19 point profit, a payout of £9,500.
The Mole: Bad Trade
Not even the match-fixers would've been creative enough to script the sort of comeback that was witnessed in the final of the UK Championship on Sunday. Either John Higgins produced a stunning fightback or Mark Williams completely lost his minerals. 9-5 up and needing just one frame for victory someone bought Williams on the 10-3 Supremacy market (10pts for the win, 3pts per frame won by) at 19 for £150, with a possible six point profit to be had if the Welshman had closed the game out there and then. The punter had gone all in, but remarkably it wasn't to be as the 'Wizard of Wishaw' showed even more grit than usual to take EVERY frame from then on! A quality break of 76 and a miraculous recovery after needing a snooker took him to within one. Williams' April was rocking and there was to be only one winner as the Scotsman doubled a stunning brown to complete the most dramatic but painful of comebacks for our man. The final 10-9 scoreline took the market into a negative make-up of -13, resulting in a £4,800 loss.
The Mole: Market Moves

Down and Dirty Our long term special, Trapdoor Points, is a market on the number of points that the three promoted teams from last season (Newcastle, WBA and Blackpool) will accrue and it's fair to say that Blackpool in particular, were sure to find life with the big boys tough. Our opening price back in August was 87-89 (which works out at an average of 29 points per team). But the few buyers we had are now sitting pretty as all three currently sit on 22 points, meaning our spread having moved to 99-101 (an average of 33 points per team).

This week the weight of snow resting on it caused the Minnesota Vikings Metrodome's roof to collapse. Now we know why the FA didn't put one on Wembley.

As it's a special edition I've chosen some of my favourite YouTube based banter from over the years starting with tumultuous Scot-Icelandic relations, the greatest goal ever and the best viral video around.
