The Mole overheard great story this week...On a recent trip to the England v South Africa Pool A game, one client, enjoying some Sporting Index hospitality, tried to excuse an anomaly on his hotel bill. When questioned about the irregularity (which was of the adult genre), he maintained that he was trying to watch the new Denzil Washington blockbuster when some far more risqué entertainment appeared instead, which he couldn't turn off. He couldn't explain why it remained on for 37 minutes...

Enjoy the rugby

The lesser spotted international footballer could be a common sight across the shores of the Spanish and Caribbean coastlines this summer as Scotland became the second home nation team to blow their chances to compete at next year's European Championships. One client might be able to afford a week's all-inclusive at Sandals after buying the Georgian Shirt Supremacy over Scotland at 20 for £20. The Georgian kit man has been watching too much NFL as their starting line-up included three players wearing a higher shirt number than the whole of the Scotland starting line-up combined! Just 16 minutes had passed in the game when, of all people, the Georgian number 99 put one in the Scotland sack. The client's luck got even better in the second half when Siradze (#43) all but took away the Jocks' hopes of qualifying but sent our man shopping for his Speedos' with his £2,440 profit.

What price a certain Mr. Rogers song will be topping the UK charts in the very near future if England complete the impossible on Saturday night? The tune of 'The Gambler' has been reverberating around the England rugby team's hotel and could also be found as a special bet on our website before the French game. The market, based on famous poker hands, awarded points for a number of outcomes with the highest counting as the make-up (100pts for England win and either of the Princes is shown, 90pts England to win and not miss a kick, 80pts win and score four tries, 70pts England to score a try, conversion, pen and drop goal, 60pts England win, 50 pts England don't miss a kick, 40 pts England score three tries, 30pts England score two tries and two cons, 20pts England score two tries, 10 pts England get a yellow or red, 0pts England lose and none of the above happens). One punter bought £100 at 48 and got exactly what he wanted. A shot of the follically challenged Prince just before the kick off and a mesmeric England performance meant for a make-up of a 100 and a £5,200 bonanza for a very happy customer!

The climax of Super League brought us a shock which shook Lancashire to its foundations and gave Yorkshire the bragging rights as on Saturday, champions 'elect' St. Helens took on the Leeds Rhinos in the Old Trafford showpiece. One client bought Saints' Try Minutes at 150 for £5 expecting the World Club and Challenge Cup victors to complete the treble. Our man could have been forgiven for thinking that James Roby's superb 27th minute try would have opened the flood gates after a nervy St. Helens start. But, alas this was not to be, as the Rhinos came out second half and quite simply battered the Saints into submission, denying them any further score. This was terrible for the client who could hear the final call for the 20.00 train to Piecesville. That's a long journey nursing a £615 loss.

Christmas might be more than nine weeks away but we're already dishing out the goodwill in Kennington. Controversy in the Luton v Northampton League Two match on Monday as a settlement on a disputed goal saved one punter a bit of cash. The client sold shirts at 42 for £30 in the Hatters' 4-1 victory over the Cobblers but might have lost more than he originally thought after a Darren Currie (#10) free kick was apparently 'scored' by Paul Furlong (#29). The television evidence was inconclusive so our charitable traders decided to settle at 106 for buyers and 87 for sellers. Although a loss for the punter it did mean for a saving of £570. Sporting Index, nice guys - tell your friends!

Rugby World Cup We've already been let down once by an England team this week, but will lightning strike twice? It seems some of you think so. Our England Performance market is down two points to 23-28.

Premier League Domestic league action returns to our screens this weekend and Arsenal's unbeaten run this season hasn't thrilled everyone. The Gunners are down one to 38-41 on our Premier League - Championship Index.

Entertainment Kelly Brook always makes a big impression, but this time it's her dancing skills that are grabbing the headlines. Her dirty dancing routine received rave reviews from the panel last week and she's up five to 20-23 on our Strictly Come Dancing Index.

Andy Williams (not the old American crooner, but the asbestos removal man from Cardiff) has got through to the final 12 in X-factor and is liked by some. He's up one to 11-14 on our X-Factor Index.

NFL Bears' fans have been tearing out their hair this season. Four defeats from their opening six games is not what they expected after their side reached the Superbowl back in Feb. Chicago are down 10 to 9-12 after their 34-31 defeat against Minnesota
