Step forward the Murray brothers and the England Cricket Team to provide the country with its dose of patriotism in June. After 'Carsongate' the country will have to find itself a band wagon to jump upon and ride throughout the whole of the month. So what better thing to look forward to than the image of a crowded and anxious Murray Mount while listening to Test Match Special as Harmison comes in to bowl...

Bring it on!

An international result from a slightly more exotic location than North West London triggered very high levels of excitement for some of our plucky clients. One client in particular had the divine inspiration to buy the Total Goal Minutes in the Venezuela v Bolivia match at 130 for £40. This World Cup qualifier, played at the delightfully named Estadio Polideportivo de Pueblo Nuevo stadium, was full of incident. The 2-2 scoreline at half time meant that the client could have closed out for a tidy profit, but he chose to let it ride and what a decision that was! The action was as vociferous as you would have expected any South American game to be, but our man had to wait until the 78th minute to land profit when Bolivia amazingly took the lead for the third time in the match. Then, disastrously for Bolivia, their goalkeeper got injured and with three subs already made and the left back now in goal, they conceded in the 82nd, 89th and 90th minutes to lose 5-3. Of course the result didn't matter to the client as much as the quite absurd 445 make-up which locked him in a colossal £12,600 profit.

All things considered the Croatia game was a spectacle and a half for the neutral (i.e. Scotsmen). In a game where goals didn't need to be scored in order for either team to qualify, the Eastern Europeans still gave it their all. One client had no idea that Bilic's men would take the game to England and bought the time of first Croatia goal at 70 for £100. As you'll see on melancholy football documentaries about England for years to come, Nico Kranjcar's shot squirmed past the startled Scott Carson in just the eighth minute. This brought an end to our punter's bet, with the freakish strike costing our man a grand total of £6,200. This, incidentally, is around same amount of money that David Beckham got from LA Galaxy for the duration of the game, hmmm.

Heineken Cup It's early days, but they're going wild in the West-country. Gloucester maintained their 100% record in Europe when beating the Ospreys 26-18 and they are up two points to 22-25 on our Heineken Cup Outright Index.

NFL You may think it's all about the New England Patriots this season, but they aren't the only team impressing Stateside. NFC South pace-setters, Tampa Bay, clipped Atlanta's wings when cruising to a 31-7 victory last weekend and they are up 10 points to 27-31 on our Superbowl Index.

Entertainment Alesha Dixon tripped the light fantastic last Saturday and left the judges drooling. The former rapping diva waltzed her way to a score of 38 (the highest total of the series to date) and has strengthened her position at the head of the market. She's up five points to 37-40 on our Strictly Come Dancing Index.

The tears were flowing last Saturday night after Hope were saved by the judges for the second time this series. Are their days numbered or can Simon Cowell work his magic? The all-girl group are down six points to 11-14 on our X-Factor Index.
