Apologies for the lack of Mole action last week, yours truly had a touch of Deli Belly after a trip to The Raj with The Shrew. That meant I was laid up in bed all weekend with nothing else to do apart from watch the golf and cricket – nightmare!

Anyway, it might be quiet at the moment but it's the perfect time to get your long-term punts on the new season. We've now got our Premier League Special and Relegation Index up, as well as our Championship Points and Outright Index. So with the return of the beautiful game just weeks away, who do you fancy to do well (or badly)?

One way that you could measure the success of The Open Championship is by the mentions of the absence of the number one person in golf. Tiger's non-attendance was hardly spoken about as soon as the first spectator was blown off the course. One client (and I mean one) was fortunate enough to sell Padraig Harrington's Finishing Position at 26 for £75 on Monday night. Now, with him complaining of a bad wrist and walking in after just two shots of his final practice round, this has to be one of the biggest betting swings in history. The Irishman's problem caused our golf traders to remove him from all betting with everyone expecting him to pull out Lyle-style, but by the end of the first day the defending champ was just five shots off the lead. I-pod shot an excellent 68 on Friday to put him right in the mix and his 72 on Saturday left him in Sunday's final group with Greg Norman. Harrington's second shot into 17, which set up an eagle, was probably one of the finest shots The Open has ever seen and the defending champion's win banked our man £3,750. Yes that's £3,750 as he got his profits doubled as part of our Finishing Positions promotion. What a deal!

You would have to describe the second test between England and South Africa as a pretty shambolic one for England. Even more so for one punter who sold South Africa's 1st Innings Runs at 285 for £10 on the first day. After a sorry England, with a virtual unknown in their line-up, were bowled out for just 203 before tea (can you imagine Fabio Capello calling up someone from Northampton Town?), South Africa faltered. Our man waited for just the wrong point to get involved and sold at 101 when they were three down. Unfortunately the visitors proved they were a class apart by showing their line-up had a middle order, and a pretty hard one at that. Both Ashwell Prince and AB de Villiers scored superb centuries against the load of cobblers that England's bowlers threw down. SA's final tally of 522 was well deserved and it put them firmly back in the driving seat to win the Test. I would imagine our man was calling Vaughan something a little stronger than a prawn after his £2,370 loss.

Premier League Punters don't seem too excited about the recent arrival of Swiss international, Valon Behrami, at Upton Park. In fact, they reckon the Hammers will struggle this season. Curb's crew are up one to 4-7 on our Premier League – Relegation Index.

It's been three seasons since Wigan finished in the top-half of the table. Will Steve Bruce be able to work his magic at the JJB over the coming months? Some believe he will. Our Latics' season points are up one to 41-42.5.

Formula One The mood is buoyant again in the McLaren camp after Lewis Hamilton became the first driver to win back-to-back GPs this season. The Brit has stopped the rot and is up a massive six points to 46-49 on our Formula One Championship Index.

Olympics Four years ago in Athens, GB & NI's medal haul was 9 golds, 9 silvers and 12 bronzes. What awaits them at the Beijing summer games? More by the sounds of it. Our total GB & NI gold medal quote is up 0.2 to 11.5-12.

Mildly interesting / useless sporting fact

Double Open champion Padraig Harrington is part of a pretty successful multi-sport family. His cousins are 1995 World Series of Poker champion and author Dan Harrington and Atlanta Falcons quarterback Joey Harrington.

Championship Season Points There's more money than ever down there but it's got to be the tightest Championship in years. Birmingham, Reading, QPR, Wolves, Sheff Utd, Derby, Ipswich, Palace, Charlton the big names are endless. Click here for our latest prices.
