The Mole: Issue 233

Super Sunday, for the first time in a while, was genuinely super. There were 18 corners in total in the Man City v Spurs and Arsenal v Man Utd matches and of the handful of correct answers to last week’s poser, Mr PF was picked at random as the recipient of the £200 Total Goals bet.

I’d like to say I’m writing this week’s edition of the Mole from Melbourne, where it is 32 degrees and I’m sipping on a cold lager. But I’m not. It is the finals of the Aussie Open this weekend though, so I will be tuning in on Sunday morning, in my dressing gown, sipping on a coffee. To win a £200 Total Goals bet tell us the X-Courts makeup of the men’s final. Email your predictions to themole@sportingindex.com before 7am on Sunday please.

Yours in fair dinkum

The Mole: The Numbers

The Mole: Good Trade

Before we get stuck into the this week’s good trade, there’s a special mention for all those who bought the New York Giants’ Outright Super Bowl Index at 10 immediately after the side lost their first match of the season at the Washington Redskins. The Super Bowl beckons and you’re guaranteed at least a 60 point profit. And now to a sport of another oval ball: rugby union. The Heineken Cup this year has, like its football equivalent, thrown up a few shocks. Munster qualifying from Pool A wasn't one of them, but perhaps the points total in their final group match at Northampton Saints was. One punter bought Total Match Points at 41 for £125 and must have been confident of a payday when the sides went in 19-19 at the break. An additional 49 points in the second period meant his final P&L for the match read £5750.

The Mole: Good Trade

It’s fair to say that Sporting Index’s footy desk were bricking it in the build up to the Arsenal/United game after taking a battering on the 10 goals scored in the reverse earlier in the season. Three goals this time round was a lot easier to swallow and it was the turn of Bookings Index sellers to feel a bit of pain. There were several punters who tried to make a quick buck by shorting with five minutes to go with four bookings so far, one punter selling £150 at 48, just after RVP joined Koscielny, Ramsey and Rafael on a yellow. A poor decision that even Stuart Atwell wouldn’t make... maybe. Three late cards for Rosicky, Song and Evra added 30 to the Bookings Index, confirming that old cliché that 'it ain't over 'til the fat lady sings', and leading to a total makeup of 70 and a loss of £3,300. Yellow peril indeed!

The Mole: Market Moves

Heineken Cup Index
Munster’s scintillating victory over Northampton on Saturday saw the two-time champions qualify for the last-eight as top seeds, with six wins from their six pool games. Having put 5 tries past the fancied Northampton Saints and scoring a total of 51 points, Munster have guaranteed a home draw for both the Quarter Finals against Ulster and should they win that game, a home draw in the Semi Final against either Edinburgh or Toulouse. With this favourable draw, Munster are now priced at 29-32, rising 21 points throughout the group stage of the competition. Munster are now a close second favourite behind Leinster. Will we see an Irish final for the first time ever?

Description
: Ever holed a 200 foot putt? This dude has.

Extra: Check out Michael Duberry’s imperfect hattrick. Left foot, right foot, header. Shame two of them were own goals.
