The serious problems the weather is causing was finally realised in Kennington this week, when a major downpour temporarily knocked out power in the office. Although this was nothing compared to the trauma that the Marketing Department suffered when the local Pizza Express was forced to close due to flooding mid-way through preparing the team's usual lunch-time order. Some of the Marketing execs were even sent to rescue the stricken margheritas and garlic breads so the team could continue to function!

Yours in sport

Anyone gripped by the pre-season friendly action yet? Well one client certainly is after getting stuck into the Liverpool v South China match in the Asia Trophy. The punter sold the time of the first South China goal at 85 for £100 and with The Reds up against the whole South side of the most densely populated country in the world it certainly didn't look like a bad bet. With that fact it was no surprise when South China's Li Haiqiang scored with a spectacular curling free-kick from 40-yards in the 35th minute. A remarkable goal which gave the client a remarkable £5,000 profit.

One of the most bizarre sights sport has seen in a while. Jenson Button sitting in the gravel track on the side of a rain soaked Nurburgring when he was joined in choreographed sequence by six more cars as they could do nothing to stay on the track! It was jaw dropping stuff. One punter must have known that our Lewis would come unstuck sometime as he sold the youngster on our Race Index at 28 for £100 (60 win, 40 2nd, 30 3rd etc). The Championship leader had an eventful race to say the least and just finished outside the points in ninth place. This meant he was awarded zero points on our Index and the client could shower himself in the £2,800 profit.

We had over 30 special markets on The Open last week. Everything from player to hole specials. One of the hole specials was called 'Deserted Island', our 17th Hole Disaster Index. The market awarded six points for a six, seven for a seven, eight for an eight etc on the fearsome 461 yard par 4. One punter bought £5 at 240 in the belief that, with bad weather to come during the Championship, the Carnoustie links would bare its teeth and produce peril for the pros. The hole, so fearsome in 1999, proved a somewhat easier test this time around and was responsible for just seven double bogeys or worse and was only the 9th hardest hole on the course. This meant that the special made-up just 42 and left the client nursing a loss of £990.

As if Mother Nature hasn't caused enough problems with the English weather. One client suffered the full wrath of this inclement period during the final moments of the Lord's Test. The punter knew India could not take anymore and bought England's Win Index at 22 for £50 in the hope of nicking a few pennies (25 for win, 10 for draw). The tourists were nine down and hanging on for dear life when the sky turned and the rain came. The batsmen were offered the light and not surprisingly they took it and, unfortunately for our man, they never went back to the middle leaving draw the official result. That seemingly 'easy' £150 turned into a very gloomy £600 loss.

Premiership One of league's top pin-up boys left North London this week and he had few juicy words to say about Arsenal's current state. But Freddie Ljungberg's comments at his West Ham press conference seem to have had a reverse effect on our punters as the Gooner's Season Points are up a half to 69.5 – 71. While the continuing Tevez affair seems to have caused the Hammers to drop a half to 48 – 49.5.

Golf
Finally a European has won a major! But will Padraig Harrington stop there or push on and take the last major of the year at Southern Hills? The Irishman's Carnoustie triumph means he's up 41.5 points to 80 - 81.5 on our 2007 Major Performance Index.

Cricket
KP was his usual headline making self during the first Test. Scoring yet another century to defy his ever present critics. Pietersen's runs quote for the three Test series takes its usual gigantic leap, up 80 runs to 355 – 365.

Hurling Kilkenny are the jollies to win the All-Ireland Championship and even though all matches were sadly postponed last weekend it hasn't stopped you from backing them on our All-Ireland Hurling Index. The Cats are up a point to 14 – 15.5.
